Hi! My name is Mariëlle. I’m currently Associate Professor in Internet Governance at Maastricht University, where I research how digital and internet governance shape – and are, in turn, shaped by – processes of democratisation and autocratisation.
I regularly write analyses on Russian politics, internet policy and related topics, and provide commentary for Dutch and international media. I welcome media requests on, among other topics:
- Internet and platform governance, in particular in relation to political communication, human rights, digital authoritarianism and censorship
- Russia politics and society, in particular in relation to internet censorship, digital policy, political communication, media freedom and transnational information suppression
